Walk Detail: My second walk in the week with Lisa, this felt much more like a proper expedition than the fairly quick, though no less enjoyable, there and back trip to Whinlatter earlier in the week.

It was a dramatic misty morning with some stunning sunlight breaking through the initial woodland as we began the walk. Lisa then disturbed an owl which flew out from practically right next to her.

Sadly the sunshine did not continue once we had gained the ridge proper on Wren Crag. Visibility was good though so we were able to enjoy the views on offer with the Dodds and Clough Head in particular impressing. The traverse of the ridge was enjoyable with lots of little ups and downs and we took our time to reach the summit which was a most pleasant place.

After lingering for a while we began our descent and shortly afterwards the sun broke out again. St Johns Church was a real little gem and the walk back along the Vale was pleasant though seemed to take longer than the 2½ miles it was. We both really enjoyed ourselves and it yet again proved there is more to walking in the Lake District than the higher and more famous fells.
