Walk Detail: This was a rare opportunity to take Sally and Rachel, two of my oldest friends, out for a walk. I was quite concerned about the weather and state of the roads because it was very icy when we set off and the forecast was for heavy mist. As it happened we were exceptionally lucky as the sky overhead was almost completely clear all day. Had we gone walking near Skipton on the other hand we would have barely seen 10 yards.

The walk was fairly easy with just a slight pull up to Tow Scar. The walk along Turbary Road was made interesting by the number of potholes just off the path while the view of Whernside was stunning. The walking was good nearly the entire way, it was just at the end that the path diverged from that on the OS map and we had to cross some easy open ground to reach the road.

I had been so pessimistic about the weather that I forgot to pack my torch. This was a shame as we were only able to penetrate a few yards into Yordas Cave without it. Still now I know there is parking nearby I will have to go back. Incidentally my memory of when Matt and I drove along Kingsdale a few years before was of lots of gates in the road. However on the walk back along the road to the car there were none. Either things have changed or my memory is defective!

We all really enjoyed ourselves and it was rare for me to be able to explore an area of the Dales I have not been to before. I’d like to go back on to Gragareth though.
